NUTRITIONAL NOTES: AVOCADO

Avocados are originally from Mexico, although many are now grown in California and Florida.

Most dogs love avocados, which are high in fat and flavor. Although obese dogs should not be fed avocados (because of their high fat and calorie count), other dogs need not avoid them.

They are a great source of energy for active or working dogs, and the high fat content is great for healthy skin and a shiny coat. Plus, as a fruit, avocados contain no cholesterol.

1 medium-size avocado contains:

• 9 mg sodium
• 22 mg calcium
