However, if your dog avoids meat altogether, you can use the following recipes, as well as others in this website that do not include meat as an ingredient.

If your dog cannot eat meat, you can simply use your dog’s usual kibble in the recipe to make it meat-free.

Although these treats contain a number of different vegetables that are not normally considered dog foods, most of our taste-tester dogs ate these with enthusiasm.

Makes 25 to 30 3-inch treats

Ingredients for Veggie Dog Treats

3 cups all-purpose flour
1⁄2 cup quick oats
1⁄2 cup roasted, unsalted sunflower seeds
1⁄2 cup grated carrots
1⁄4 cup finely diced celery
1⁄4 cup finely chopped broccoli flowers
1⁄4 cup finely diced red or yellow bell pepper (no seeds)
1 teaspoon minced garlic
1⁄4 cup vegetable oil
1 cup water

Step by Step to make easy Veggie Dog Treats

  1. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees.
  2. Mix all the ingredients well. Using your hands, knead the dough for a few minutes.
  3. Form the dough into a ball and drop it onto a floured breadboard. Roll the dough
    out to about 1⁄4 inch thick.
  4. Use a 3-inch cookie cutter to cut the dough into shapes. Place the cookies on
    greased cookie sheets.
  5. Bake 15 to 20 minutes or until golden brown.
  6. Remove from the oven, let cool thoroughly, and store in an airtight container.
    Crunchier Treats: For crisper treats, when all the cookies have been baked, turn off the
    oven. Put all the cookies back on a cookie sheet and return them to the oven. Leave
    them in the cooling oven for several hours or overnight to harden.
